How to use this word counter

  1. Paste or type your draft in the box.
  2. Read live words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs.
  3. Optional: enter a keyword to see count and density.
  4. Pick a limit chip (X, meta title, LinkedIn…) and watch remaining space.
  5. Copy stats when you need them for a brief or checklist.

Why a live word counter still matters

Essays, captions, meta tags, and social posts all have hard ceilings. Counting in chat or a spreadsheet breaks your flow. A private live counter keeps drafting and limit-checking in one place — with reading time for editors and keyword density for light SEO checks — without uploading your copy to a third party.

FAQ

How do you count words and characters?

Words are split on whitespace. Characters include every symbol you type; “no spaces” removes all whitespace. Sentences split on . ! ? and paragraphs on blank lines.

How is reading and speaking time estimated?

Reading uses about 225 words per minute; speaking about 150. These are averages — real pace varies by content and audience.

What does keyword density mean?

We count how often your keyword or phrase appears (case-insensitive) and divide by total words. It’s a quick SEO/content check, not a ranking guarantee.

Are the limit chips exact?

Hard caps: X free posts 280 characters (Premium long posts up to 25,000), LinkedIn posts 3,000, Instagram captions 2,200, YouTube titles 100, SMS about 160 on GSM-7 (often 70 with emoji). Meta title (~60) and meta description (~155) are SEO guidelines — Google truncates by pixel width, not a fixed character rule. “500-word goal” is a writing target, not a platform limit.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Counting runs entirely in your browser. DevDock does not send your draft to a server to use this tool.
